Day 53

Green River, UT to Capitol Reef National Park, UT

97 miles
7:55 time
4050 calories

Our first road of the morning was flooded.

I had to change a flat so Kevin, Joel, and Thom entertained us by reenacting the final scene in Seven.
We were on a deserted (and crappy) road for 15ish miles.
But it at least was pretty scenic.

 Stopped for a fire.

Riding on the edge of the storm.
Muddy waterfall in Capitol Reef National Park.

We didn't have showers for the evening since we were camping so a bunch of us took a dip in the cold waterfall instead.

Day 52

Moab, Utah to Green River, Utah

64.5 miles
4:13 time
2300 calories

6 of us missed the turn for the detour bridge and went 7 miles out the wrong way.  But we got to ride on this amazing road along the Colorado river for 14 miles - it was worth it!

Paul and Zach watching the granny gear races.

Day 51

Build Day in Moab, Utah

We woke up at 3:30am to hike Arches National Park before sunrise.  It was totally worth the early wakeup.

We couldn't really see where we were going in the dark and lost the trail.  We ended up on a 100 ft cliff that had a perfect view of the sunrise.  Just a little scary...

 Delicate Arch

 Writings from the 1650-1850s

We got to work on a straw bale/rammed earth floor house!  With Community Rebuilds.
We leveled out the gravel, put down the blue boards, and then layered in the dirt and tamped it.

We also toured a non-affordable strawbale house that was the most inspiring thing I've seen in awhile.
The old adobe brick home was outfitted with strawbales for more insulation.  They took the old roof and made it the ceiling and then put a new roof over it.
From the exterior.  Over 2' thick.

Day 50

Day Off!  in Moab

Slept in til 8ish, explored town, went white water rafting and then for a sunset hike in Arches National Park.  It thunderstormed like crazy so we didn't get to do the whole hike.  Going back in the morning!

I have gotten warmed up to peeing in public by now believe it or not, and we had our most majestic pee on the top of the cliff here.  In case you were wondering...

I got a chain to the spokes which resulted in Lindsey slightly crashing into Connor and getting a boo boo.  Had to wait for 2 hours for the van to come give me a tool to fix it all.  But turned out just fine in the end.

Day 48

Montrose, CO to Naturita, CO

86.5 miles
6:35 time
2825 calories

My most favorite 20 miles of the whole country were the last 20 of today.  Photos can't capture it but it was awesome.  We were in a mesa on top of the mountains, going down hill with clouds and peaks all around.  Sooo beautiful.  And then we got into town and the locals bought us several rounds of beer.  Can't beat today!

He had a little bike park in his backyard.
Our last divide - the Dallas Divide.
Connor.
The coolest  bar/cafe/resto/chill spot I've seen.  In Norwood - called Two Candles.

In the mesa.
