Day 51

Build Day in Moab, Utah

We woke up at 3:30am to hike Arches National Park before sunrise.  It was totally worth the early wakeup.

We couldn't really see where we were going in the dark and lost the trail.  We ended up on a 100 ft cliff that had a perfect view of the sunrise.  Just a little scary...

 Writings from the 1650-1850s

We got to work on a straw bale/rammed earth floor house!  With Community Rebuilds.
We leveled out the gravel, put down the blue boards, and then layered in the dirt and tamped it.

We also toured a non-affordable strawbale house that was the most inspiring thing I've seen in awhile.
The old adobe brick home was outfitted with strawbales for more insulation.  They took the old roof and made it the ceiling and then put a new roof over it.
From the exterior.  Over 2' thick.
